    Do plant names ever seem intentionally obscure and hard to remember? Do you wonder how they got their names and why? This program will break down botanical nomenclature, looking at some of the most common Greek and Latin vocabulary and the rules for plant naming. We will also examine the ways that names that reflect politics, patronage, and advances in the science of botany. About the Presenter: Meghan Ray is a Museum Scientist at the University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley. She has a BA in Classical Languages from the City University of New York, a MA in Garden History and Landscape Studies from the Bard Graduate Center, and certificate in Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley Extension. She has given classes on horticultural subjects and on garden history and has written for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden handbook series, Fine Gardening and Garden Design Magazine.
