Our Position

I am frequently asked about how the Berkeley Chamber might be the same or different from the California State and National Chambers of Commerce.

The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce is an entirely distinct and independent entity from either the State or National Chambers of Commerce.

We are not bound to, nor do we participate in, the policy positions of either organization.

Our primary goals focus on supporting businesses in Berkeley. We recognize that frequently our positions on some business issues are different from these larger chambers.

Our support for Buy Local Berkeley, the environment and certified green businesses, as well as our push to awaken the sustainable business model in all of our member businesses sometimes puts us at odds with the State and National Chambers - a position which we are happy to take when it is the right thing to do.

I welcome your specific questions.

Welcome

Welcome to the Berkeley Chamber

Working together, we can achieve so much to create a vibrant business and socially sound community. I support the expanding leadership role the Berkeley Chamber is taking towards building local coalitions which enrich and support business diversity and social responsibility in Berkeley.

Let the Berkeley Chamber help support your voice for sensible and smart business growth. Join the conversation today. Become a member and add your voice to the collective conversation towards smart sustainable growth.

Buy Local Berkeley

In 2008 a small dedicated group of local business owners and City leaders worked together to create a marketing coalition with the intent of encouraging the Berkeley community at large to shop local. Shifting just a small portion of purchases to locally owned business dramatically improves the local economic health of business and the non-profit community.

Today, the Berkeley Chamber serves as the fiscal agent of Buy Local Berkeley. (http://buylocalberkeley.org/)

Buy Local Berkeley is comprised of locally owned, independently operated businesses and businesses who support shopping local. The Office of Economic Development continues to provide a contract to support the city wide marketing efforts of Buy Local Berkeley.( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlOnHESz7w4)

Berkeley’s locally owned and independently operated businesses help create the vibrancy that is uniquely Berkeley. Find out how you can get involved today. Contact the Chamber office or visit www.berkeleychamber.com for more information.

Leadership East Bay

What is Leadership? How can the Chamber or any business collaboration support the development of strong local leaders?

The Berkeley Chamber took on the task of training new community leaders by developing the Leadership Berkeley Program in the fall of 2003.

Today the program has expanded to include both Emeryville and Berkeley.

The Leadership East Bay Program (http://www.leadershipeastbay.com/) is a collaborative effort between the Berkeley and Emeryville Chambers.

The primary objectives of the program are to teach leadership skills and expand the knowledge and connectivity of class participants. Program graduates are well connected and ready to engage and support their community. Graduates participate in local non profit boards, public policy discussions, school site leadership and more.

Ask me how you can become involved with the Leadership East Bay Program today.
