Berkeley Chamber Goes Carbon Neutral!
We just signed up for a carbon offset program through PG&E. It costs a few dollars a month and we're helping to save Berkeley and the Planet.
Together we can make a positive difference.
After three years, PG&E expects the ClimateSmart program to invest in 1.5 million tons of greenhouse gas emission reductions. That's equal to taking 270,000 cars off the road for a year. The more customers that sign up, the more reductions we'll achieve together."
Join the growing number of PG&E customers who have signed up for ClimateSmart™-a first-of-its-kind program that allows you to balance out the greenhouse gas emissions from the energy you use.
Global warming is putting our children's future at risk. That's why I signed up my family for PG&E's ClimateSmart program, and I encourage everyone to join us in the fight against climate change." Dan Kammen, PG&E Customer and Professor in the Energy and Resources Group, University of California, Berkeley.

Shop Berkeley Businesses!
Here are a few reasons why the Berkeley business community is critical in the economic health and quality of life in our community:
A vibrant Berkeley business community will retain and create jobs, which also means a stronger tax base. When the storefronts are filled with successful businesses that provide tax revenues for the entire community, everyone benefits.
Berkeley is a good incubator for new small businesses, the building blocks of a healthy economy. Also, many of our shops are unique and the service excellent!
A healthy Berkeley business community protects and enhances property values in surrounding residential neighborhoods. Everyone benefits from the ripple effect of a vibrant business community.
While home to businesses large and small, national and local, that contribute our community, Berkeley is an ideal location for local independent businesses, many of which in turn:
-
Keep profits in town
-
Support local families with family-owned businesses
-
Support local community projects, such as ball teams and schools
-
Provide an extremely stable economic foundation with ties to stay in the community.
A vibrant business community increases the choices for all of us for goods and services, whether for basic staples, like clothing, food and professional services or for less traditional functions such as housing and entertainment. More choices mean higher quality products at lower prices.
Berkeley can become a much larger tourist attraction by virtue of the character of our buildings, location, selection of unique businesses, and events held here. This means more visitors to our community and more tourist dollars being spent in Berkeley.
Finally, our business areas are all symbols of our community’s economic health, local quality of life, pride, and community history. These are all factors in recruiting commercial and professional businesses, and attracting people to move here. It also provides a reason for others in Berkeley to visit a vibrant, clean, safe and walkable business area.
Visit Berkeley... and see why so many people find it one of the most fascinating communities to explore. Known world-wide, especially now, an abundance of excellent dining, one-of-a-kind shopping, cultural venues, a renowned university and many other experiences await you.
The city of Berkeley rests in a natural amphitheater, sweeping down from the coastal hills to the shores of San Francisco Bay. You can see out to the far Pacific horizon, framed by the Golden Gate; you can see the distinct skyline of San Francisco; and the gentle peak of Marin County's Mt. Tamalpais.
Closer to home, the city's eastern boundary is crowned by Tilden Regional Park, part of a more than 40 mile long regional park system, and thousands of acres of watershed lands that open the spectacular ridges of the coast ranges to those that cherish the ample green belt.
Los Angeles and southern California deserts are 400 miles to the south, Lake Tahoe, gold country and the High Sierra is a three hour drive to the east. The Redwood empire and Napa and Sonoma wine county is less than an hour away to the north. Sacramento is only eighty miles east; and the charming Sacramento/San Joaquin river delta is just over the hills to the east. San Francisco is minutes west over the Bay Bridge.
Few places are as conveniently located for the business person. With two major interstate highways and a trans-continental rail line passing through the city limits, two major international airports close by, and three principal shipping ports to the Pacific Rim and beyond as neighbors, Berkeley's location is as desirable as it is accessible.
Berkeley - from Bohemian Telegraph Avenue to the Gourmet Ghetto on North Shattuck, and Solano Avenue, College Avenue, International Marketplace at San Pablo and University Avenues, Downtown Berkeley - it's everything you thought it would be, and recently, even more!
Welcome, New Members!
